Darren Johnston Creates New Piece For Barbican
“If there was a Turner Prize for dance, Darren Johnston would undoubtedly be on the shortlist” - The Times
In ‘Zero Point’, Darren
Johnston seamlessly merges visual arts, theatre and dance exploring
the intersections of spirituality and science in
a sensory journey.
The minimalist aesthetics is inspired by his time spent in Kochi,
Japan. Electronic music pioneer Tim
Hecker provides
a magnetizing soundscape. Ballet dancer Hana
Sakai
performs
with an ensemble of Japanese dancers. The piece was shown
as a work-in-progress at a sold out Barbican
on 25-27 May, and premiered
at the Museum of Art Kochi, Japan on 25 June 2016.
